Istituto Marangoni Firenze
Art, fashion, and design: training tomorrow’s talents
The courses on offer are three-year undergraduate and master’s degrees
The watchword: interdisciplinarity. This is the principle on which the educational offer of the Istituto Marangoni in Florence is based. Founded in Milan in 1935 by Giulio Marangoni, a master tailor renowned throughout Italy, the institute is internationally recognised as one of the leading training schools in the fields of fashion, design, and art. Lorenzo Tellini, director of the Institute in Florence spoke with us about it.
“Interdisciplinarity” in what way?
«I will give one example among many: our Multimedia Arts students also deal with installations for the choreography of the final fashion show organised in the third year».
What courses do you offer?
«Undergraduate three-year and master’s degrees. We also offer the possibility of internships in companies. The flagship courses are fashion design and styling, the latter recognised by Miur as a three-year degree from this year».
And the mentorship programs?
«We are focused on Paul Andrew, Sarah Coleman, and Andy Picci».
Your numbers?
«On average, 350 students attend our courses, 35% of them Italian, the remainder being Latin American and Asian. The placement figure is 85%».
Artisanship but also technology?
«We use Cloud3D and Rhino3D software for fashion design lessons, to create the product through virtual reality. And, in addition, our Multimedia arts students use metaverse platforms through the mentorship of digital artist Andy Picci. Platforms like these are then preparatory for the professions of tomorrow».
