Fendi 1925–2025: A Century of Design in Ten Iconic Bags
Credit: Fendi
To celebrate its centenary, Fendi has presented a collection of reissues that trace the evolution of the House’s design through ten emblematic bags, each representing a decade of innovation and craftsmanship.
1925–1935: ADELE
Named after founder Adele Fendi. Inspired by the medical cases of the time, the Adele is built on a rigid metal frame structure, with a top snap closure and finished with hand-stitched Selleria stitching.
1935–1945: FENDI S
The “S” refers to both “Signora” and “Sorelle,” a nod to the women who led the House. It features a compact construction in smooth leather, with a front flap and a hidden metal closure.
1945–1955: FENDI GEMINI
The first Fendi bag with a double compartment structure: this design inspired the Peekaboo bag. The name recalls the dual nature of the zodiac sign of Gemini.
1955–1965: FENDI X-RAY
It is compact, rigid and inspired by Art Deco, with an exposed metal frame and an innovative shoulder strap for the time. The zigzag stitching in the shape of an X gives it its name and constitutes the first graphic experiment with decorative stitching.
1965–1975: UNDER COAT
Designed to be carried under large coats, the bag features clean lines, a flat silhouette and tonal details. The thin shoulder strap and stitching recall the geometric cuts of fur coats from the 1960s and 1970s.
1975–1985: MON TRÉSOR
The Mon Trésor bucket bag was born as a soft interpretation of a jewelry box. Made of matelassé leather, with padded quilting, it has a drawstring closure with gold-plated metal details.
1985–1995: PASTA
The Pasta bag is made of enameled metal and pasta-shaped decorations with shells, spirals and zirconia macaroni. The assembly is complex and recalls goldsmithing, representing the union between Italian popular culture and high fashion. It is considered the conceptual ancestor of the Baguette.
1995–2005: BAGUETTE
Launched in 1997, the Baguette revolutionized the concept of an accessory. Compact rectangular shape, flap and magnetic button closure, soft structure. It is one of the most collected objects in contemporary fashion.
2005–2015: FENDI SPY
Designed in 2005, with a half-moon silhouette and intertwined handles. The main feature is a hidden compartment in the closure, equipped with a mirror. It has numerous invisible internal pockets.
2015–2025: PEEKABOO
Launched in 2009 and now a symbol of the brand. Trapezoidal shape, rigid handles and central opening that allows a glimpse of the interior, often in contrast. The double-door structure is inspired by doctor's briefcases, but reinterpreted in a couture key.
