‘The Beauty of Sustainable Traditions’: IED Milan rewards the creativity of designers who use leather as a creative language

In a market where the disconnect between brands and the production side is increasingly evident and is reflected in the value the consumer gives to the end product, stimulating dialogue between the supply chain and designers is increasingly central. For years, Leather&Luxury has been trying to transmit Made in Italy craftsmanship know-how also through initiatives with schools that train the young talents of tomorrow and that in turn create partnerships with companies for concrete training projects.
This is the context for ‘The Beauty of Sustainable Traditions’, the contest organised by IED Milan in collaboration with Bonaudo, for students on the Fashion Design and Shoes & Accessories Design courses, who have created eight capsule collections using certified high quality leathers supplied by Bonaudo, a leading company in the tanning sector for the luxury and streetwear segment.
Between experimental visions, references to tradition and aesthetic transformation, leather has become a language to tell stories, evoke memories and imagine new futures. An ancient material, reinterpreted in the light of circularity, durability and respect for the environment.
Winning over the jury, made up of industry professionals, company representatives and IED professors, was the ‘Equilibrio Aureo’ collection by Costanza Barbieri and Giulio Censori, awarded for its design vision, functional innovation and executive quality. The two designers created transformable garments, capable of adapting and changing according to the wearer's needs, which enhance leather as a constantly evolving material, inviting the wearer to become co-creator of their own style.
The winners have the opportunity to display their collection in a dedicated corner in the Bonaudo showroom, accompanied by a project sheet and their professional contacts: a concrete opportunity for visibility with the creative teams of the most important luxury and streetwear brands that regularly visit the company.
