Luxury is now recognized by its buttons.

Bottega Veneta’s knot, Schiaparelli’s padlock, Prada and Dries Van Noten’s jewels. There is one detail that in recent seasons has come to define the most contemporary idea of luxury: the button. An accessory that can be as discreet as it is striking, yet always capable of completely transforming the perception of a garment.

Over time, buttons have evolved from simple functional fastenings into true stylistic signatures: from the classic logo buttons of Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana, to iconic brand symbols such as Versace’s Medusa, and even more ingenious customizations like Tod’s “T” stitched between four repositioned holes.

But how is the perfect button created? We discussed it with Labam, a company specializing in the production of resin fashion accessories.

Plexiglass buttons are produced through molding, starting from a mold featuring the desired design. The possibilities are virtually endless: in addition to size, the style must also be chosen, ranging from more classic models to customized versions tailored to the client’s requests. Alternatively, buttons can be cut from sheets and precisely shaped using laser machinery.

Yet the key element is color, as it defines the final result of the button. It can be solid or patterned, and above all, thanks to resin, it is possible to reproduce precious natural materials such as ivory, horn, and tortoiseshell. A more sustainable alternative that offers greater freedom of customization in terms of tones and shades.
