The gold-jewelry district of Arezzo restarts thanks to exports, the opinion of Mauro Benvenuto, president of the goldsmiths of CNA Arezzo.
Scenario analysis: can you give us some data on the performance of the goldsmith district of Arezzo?
"The data indicate a sufficient recovery of the sector. There is still some uncertainty, especially on the Italian market, but exports are driving the relaunch of the sector. Among the most active foreign markets are the United States with +39% in the fourth quarter (data from the Monitor analysis of the Distretti della Toscana, Intesa Sanpaolo's Studies and Research Department), Dubai and the East with Hong Kong and China. The companies in our territory, which have always been export-oriented, have been less affected by the pandemic. In September, there will be the Vicenza Fair, the first exhibition event since January 2020: that will be the new starting point for all companies in the gold sector".
What are the priorities in the post covid phase for the relaunch of the sector?
"It is essential to try to simplify more and more the relationship between companies and the state. I hope that the new government will make entrepreneurship freer, without imposing excessively stringent rules. SMEs are experiencing the hardest time in history: many are not capitalized and are suffering from liquidity, more guarantees are needed. Companies are a resource and must be the priority for the restart of the whole country.
