Chi Ri-Cerca Trova: Bypell, regenerated and in rolls and ByCore

Macerata-based company Eredi Mezzabotta Maria, active in the sale of materials in the footwear, clothing, leather goods and automotive sectors, has always been sensitive to reducing resource consumption and keeping company waste low. Hence the GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certification, which recognizes the importance of recycling for the growth of a sustainable production and consumption model, in order to encourage the reduction of resource consumption (virgin raw materials, water and energy) and increase the quality of recycled products (Source: icea.bio).

It is on this concept that the Bypell article, made and sold by the company EMM, which uses waste from the leather processing industry, finds its foundation. This "waste" which, if not recovered would remain as such and would have a major environmental impact, is first reduced to a pulp and then combined with synthetic fibers, without the use of harmful adhesives, and a textile backing, through a "water melting" process.

Bypell is composed of: 50 percent recycled preconsumer cowhide, 20 percent recycled polyester, 15 percent conventional polyester, and 15 percent other coating materials. To the touch, sight and smell, this "leather" retains all the characteristics of a real leather with the advantage of being able to be used as a real fabric (sold in pieces of 25 m in height of 140 cm) and therefore also with less waste in the realization of the desired product and a reduction of 80% of the negative effects on the environment according to data provided to us by the company.
The production process recycles 95 percent of process water and reduces the use of electricity by 60 percent and the use of chemicals by 70 percent.
The EMM Company has carried out a special and in-depth LCA study on the ByPell article (hence the data stated above) that certified the actual reduction of CO2 emissions into the environment unlike traditional leather (which disperses an average of 30 kg per square meter) the ByPell leather production cycle releases less than 5 kg per square meter.

At the last Edition Di Première Vision, held in Paris from July 05 to 07, the EMM Company successfully presented a new product from its asset: ByCore, a hide derived from the olive kernel, which through a complex processing system is pulverized thus obtaining a residue (pomace) optimal for the creation of a hide of vegetable origin.
Always attentive to its territory, The company (in collaboration with its municipality) has enshrined its mission in eco-sustainability by planting an Olive tree over 70 years old with more than two meters in height in the theme park of Monte San Giusto, the place where the company has its headquarters.
