Moschino: Adrian Appiolaza is the new creative director

A new chapter opens for Moschino, signed Adrian Appiolaza. It is the Argentine designer, born in Buenos Aires in 1972, who will pick up the baton from Davide Renne, the Italian designer who passed away last November, just 10 days into his tenure as creative director. Appiolaza will oversee the women's, men's, and accessories collections-his debut is set for Feb. 22 with the women's Fall/Winter 2024 collection during Milan Fashion Week.

If the future is under the banner of Moschino, his past is studded with cult names: after spending his teenage years in his grandmother's tailor shop, as he recounts in a note, it was with his move to London (a destination actually chosen because of his passion related to the music scene) that everything changed: "I realized that my love for fashion could become my future. So I enrolled at Central Saint Martins, working in the meantime as a junior designer at Alexander McQueen and Miguel Adrover, to whom I owe a lot."

The key moment is 2002. "What changed the course of my career, however, was Phoebe Philo, who saw the collection I graduated with and wanted me alongside her at Chloé in 2002." Then Miu Miu in 2006, Louis Vuitton with Marc Jacobs as senior designer since 2010, and Chloé again, in 2012, as design director with Clare Waight Keller. Finally, from 2014, the 10 years at Loewe, alongside J.W. Anderson, with the position of women's Ready-to-Wear Design Director.

"At the same time, I started collecting clothes from designers who changed the history of costume: Franco Moschino, for me, has always been among them. Having access, today, to this kind of memory, walking through these corridors overflowing with history and just waiting to be heard, touching clothes I had only seen between the pages of magazines, has incalculable value and will act as a compass in the journey I have just begun."

"With his arrival at Moschino, Adrian brings with him a unique baggage of creativity and knowledge of fashion history that will allow him to write a wonderful new chapter in the adventure of the brand founded by Franco Moschino," says Massimo Ferretti executive chairman of Aeffe spa. "I was immediately struck by Adrian's explosive creativity, a personality full of energy and enthusiasm, elements that have always distinguished the history and path of Moschino.
