Do events like Pitti help the fashion system?

That the supply chain and the fashion system in general is in crisis is a fact, and the first months of 2024 have confirmed this, with companies reporting even major drops in turnover. And while the luxury sector is forecasting growing turnover for 2024 and 2025, it is the mid- to low-end brands that are suffering the most. For these brands, events such as Pitti are a breath of fresh air, as shown by data from the edition scheduled June 11-14 in the spaces of the Fortezza da Basso, which registers a full house and expects a large influx of buyers.

“The fairs have an opposite trend to the market,” explains Antonio De Matteis, president of Pitti Immagine. "When the situation is not easy buyers move more, and we in this 106th edition expect a major influx of buyers from the United States, Asia and Europe, including Italy. In the Fortezza all spaces have been occupied, even the Sala della Ronda that is used for the inauguration, so much so that this year the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Pitti will be held at the Palaffari."

790 brands, 43 percent of which are foreign, will present their Spring-Summer 2025 collections, with two exceptional guest designers scheduled: Marine Serre, who will debut menswear, and Paul Smith, an icon of men's fashion, who will show at Villa Favard on June 11.

Much attention, as always, to sustainability and emerging designers.

The CFMI Academy project, born out of the partnership between Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana, Pitti Immagine and UniCredit, continues, acting as an interface between Fashion Design students and companies in the fashion industry, with the aim of promoting moments of high education and further enhancing the excellence of Made in Italy production.

Kering Material Innovation Lab and Fondazione Pitti Discovery are again supporting emerging designers with a responsible approach: this edition there will be 10 menswear brands presenting their collections, including four Italians: Domenico Orefice, Florania, TOLO and Viapiave33.
