Stefano Fadda, Art Director of Milano Unica, talks about the Future of Fashion.

Fashion has developed very rapid rhythms, to the point that everything seems to be in fashion at the same time. Do you agree with this statement?
"I don't really agree, I think there has been an increase in collections and, consequently, the amount of products to be presented, such as materials, accessories and colors."

How do you orient the trend forecaster's work under these circumstances?
"The key aspect is the variety of ideas. You have to come up with many interpretations, not only related to the season, but in response to contemporary inputs. In this way, it will be possible both to meet the needs of the different product categories and to develop sustainable and interesting novelties for the public."

Sustainability is a hot topic, particularly among Italian buyers. Do you think it is sufficiently protected by Europe?
"We launched the sustainability theme about 7 years ago, following the European protocol. I think it is sufficiently protected by current regulations. The problem is that it involves an expensive process, unfortunately not supported economically. More could be done in that respect."

How do you suggest action be taken to enable the full development of sustainability?
"It is crucial that governments make proposals to ensure the integrity not only of materials but also of processes. There is a need for more investment in entrepreneurs so that they can implement a fully sustainable process that also reaches the finished garments."

Milano Unica devotes an important space to the younger generation-how do you think they are positioned within the industry?
"First of all, today's kids can count on technological possibilities that did not exist in past generations. From my experiences as a teacher, this is an advantage that hides a weakness, which is a lack of culture. Social media often turns into the only source of information and inspiration, but that is not enough to meet the needs of the industry."

In conclusion, what advice do you feel like giving to young people so that they can actively contribute?
"I definitely encourage the enjoyment of books and documentaries, along with visiting exhibitions, to stimulate the development of ideas with greater cultural depth. At the same time, I would emphasize the importance of awareness about production, sales, commercial, logistical and distribution activities. I believe that these two aspects are fundamental to building lasting collections and brands."
