The leather suit is the new classic for Gen Z men

If you watched the Oscars red carpet (or simply opened social media) you can't have missed Timothée Chalamet, nominated for best actor for A Complete Unknown, in a butter-colored suit by Sarah Burton, the first men's suit designed by the designer for Givenchy. What you might not know, however, is that the suit is made of leather. Exactly: what at first glance looks like a suit composed of a normal jacket and a pair of jeans is actually leather.
That Burton chose this material to use with a trompe l'oeil effect gives us a clue as to what her creative direction will be for the French fashion house, for which she will debut her first collection on March 7. That Chalamet chose a suit like that for such an important evening says a lot about how the leather suit is the hot item for the generation of young fashionista men, who choose a classic, but with a twist.
Chalamet, who is famous for being unconventional and also very cool, had already worn a leather suit (by the American brand Chrome Hearts) at this year's SAG. But we don't have to go overseas to see how leather is a must for young men even on the most special occasions: just look at our Sanremo where, among others, the winner Olly chose a custom Emporio Armani suit and Bresh a brown leather Ami Paris one.
After all, just look at the catwalks to see that it is not just a trend but a real direction of brands, from the most luxurious to the most contemporary, to meet the tastes of an increasingly young and fashion-oriented public: from Prada (which also sent a white leather pajama set on the catwalk) to Louis Vuitton, from Amiri to MSGM, the men's fashion shows in January recorded a +61% in the use of leather and an indisputable presence of the suit in this material, declined in a thousand variations.
