The manufacture of furs in Fendi's centenary collection

The new collection designed by Silvia Fendi for the brand's centenary is a tribute to craftsmanship excellence and innovation. A journey through the most sophisticated processing techniques of the furrier tradition, which we explored together with Riccardo Bitossi of Industrie Pellami.
Perforated effect fur
A masterpiece of precision combining two extraordinary processes.
On the one hand, a machine creates holes directly in the material, as seen in the details of the clothes.
On the other, the tricot technique is used: starting with the mink, thin strips of fur are obtained, then woven ‘knitted’, recreating the
the desired pattern, as seen in the outerwear.
Inlaid fur
This process was mainly used with zigzag patterns. By juxtaposing furs of different colours and textures, sophisticated patterns and motifs are created, while the combination of different widths and fur gives a unique three-dimensional effect.
These processes are the result of meticulous research and savoir-faire built up over decades of tradition. From material selection and dyeing to cutting and inlaying, each step is complex and meticulous.
The result? Exclusive garments that represent the excellence of fur in haute couture.
