Last Friday, 28 February, Leather & Luxury met the second-year students of the Jewelry Design course at IED - Istituto Europeo di Design for the launch of an exclusive initiative that aims to promote emerging talent in Made in Italy jewellery and to showcase the potential of new technologies in future jewellery design.
Developed in collaboration with Legor, a leading company in alloys and galvanising, and Taurini Pianeta Gemme, which has been selecting high-quality precious stones for over 50 years, the project combines education, technology and creativity, offering students the opportunity to design a collection of 10 innovative pieces of jewellery using the innovative Binder Jet technology.
Metal Binder Jet: 3D printing for jewellery 3.0
The heart of the project is the exploration of Binder Jet technology, a 3D printing technique, created in by HP and launched on the market by Legor, which, thanks to its precision, allows extremely complex metal models to be produced in 3 dimensions, reducing waste and optimising the production process.
The development of the object follows various stages, from the actual printing to the curing and synthesising phase, to obtain an object that requires very little time for the initial sampling, allows for the production of several different pieces even during the same cycle, and does not require printing or soldering.
The students will then have the opportunity to decorate and enrich their creations thanks to the stones of Taurini Pianeta Gemme, which will be able to assist them in choosing those most suitable for the models and metals used for the jewellery.
A concrete opportunity for tomorrow's designers
The project will be divided into three phases: the creative phase, where aspiring jewellery designers will be able to give free rein to their creativity, the actual production phase with visits to companies, and finally the awards event. The students' creations will be judged by a panel of experts, who will assess design, innovation, creativity and quality of execution.
With this project, Leather & Luxury continues its commitment to promoting the encounter between craftsmanship, sustainability and new technologies, creating a bridge between the world of education and the luxury industry and supply chain.
