Color Blossom is the jewelry line with which Louis Vuitton pays tribute to the iconic floral logo designed in 1896 by George-Louis Vuitton, the only son of the founder of the French fashion house. Launched in 2015, it is enriched year after year with new creations that embody the spirit of the French brand with elegance and creativity. This year, 27 new variants combine gold and precious and semi-precious stones.
Like pink mother-of-pearl, which is much rarer than the better-known white variant, as Claudia Salmucci of Taurini Pianeta Gemme, a company specializing in natural and synthetic stones, explains. “Pink mother of pearl is obtained from much smaller and rarer shells, and it is difficult to cut and use because it is thin and can cover small areas. The beauty of this collection is also that you can use difficult stones such as, for example, carnelian, from the agate family: the natural red one is hard to find in nature so homogeneous in color, especially for large surfaces. If you want to use it in large cuts, the alternative is to use a dyed agate.”
Much less rare and more widely used in jewelry are malachite (used here in its striped version, but there is also flowered) and onyx. The latter is a black stone that has an extraordinary uniformity of color and, despite being a semiprecious stone, with polishing it achieves an iridescent effect characteristic of gemstones.
