ECO-FRIENDLY: the tanning of the future for Taddei & Manzi

Taddei Manzi & C. constantly invests resources in research and development of products that are in compliance with current regulations and industry specifications; in this regard, it has achieved ZDHC certification by registering on the Gateway more than 150 products at Level 3, in accordance with the MRSL ZDHC (v.3.1). The company, which specializes in chemicals for all stages of processing in the tanning industry, also boasts synthetic tannins in its range with low bisphenol content - concentrations of less than 10 ppm - thus achieving a remarkable milestone in the market.

Taddei Manzi & C. is currently working on a new tanning system with low environmental impact, already tested and being implemented, based on products with high Bio-Based carbon content and derived from circular economy processes since they come from recycling.

Thanks to technology innovation and next-generation chemistry, the key products in this project are of various kinds, with different specific functionalities, versatile for different applications, and ensure high performance in chrome and metal-free tanning and retanning of hides and skins.

The products used allow, while maintaining the same quality as traditional processing, to bypass a tanning step, thus reducing the total process by seven hours. By eliminating the use of salt, it is also possible to reduce the presence of TDS in wastewater, to which must be added significant water savings - up to 50 percent less water used - resulting in economic and energy savings.

"This project was created to respond to market demands," explain the company. "It is a chain of which we represent the final link: it all starts from the Brands that, following the objectives of the European Green Deal, require increasingly eco-sustainable materials in order to offer the end consumer a truly "green" article. A demand that falls on the tanneries and therefore on us. For this reason, research is going toward new strategies capable of guaranteeing an ever decreasing environmental impact."
