APLF returns to Hong Kong for its 40th anniversary

 

 

The 2024 edition of APLF Leather returns to the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from March 19-21, in conjunction with sister events Materials+ and Fashion Access. The importance of APLF as a global meeting point for the leather industry: not only is the entire leather goods supply chain present, from raw hides to a myriad of fashion and automotive leathers, but the mix of professionals from all corners of the world offers valuable opportunities for exchanges of ideas and comparisons.

 

National associations and pavilions

 

For the 40th anniversary of the fair (1984-2024), annual meetings of various international bodies will be held: the International Council of Tanners (ICT), ICHSLTA, CNC, Leathersellers' Company, The UK Leather Federation, Leather Working Group, and Leather Naturally. In addition to the support provided by the above organizations, APLF is also supported by the following national tanning associations: AHSLEA (Australia), CICB and ASSINTECAL (Brazil), CLIA of China, FFTM and SCGP of France, ASSOMAC, UNIC and Consorzio Vera Pelle (Italy), CLE (India), JLIA (Japan), KTA (Korea), PTA (Mexico), PTA (Pakistan), APIC (Portugal), ACEXPIEL (Spain), TTIA (Thailand), ITKIB (Turkey) and LHCA (USA). The entire supply chain, from raw hides to suppliers of finished hides, process chemicals and machinery, will be present at APLF Leather.

The fair is enhanced by a series of conferences, forums, and workshops to create a comprehensive event for everyone in the industry.

 

Global Footwear Executive Summit

 

In its fourth year, the Global Footwear Executive Summit is an annual gathering of global footwear industry leaders, executives and professionals. Scheduled for March 20th, 2024, participants gain valuable insights into the latest advances in materials, manufacturing technologies, retail strategies, and consumer behavior.

 

"Let's Talk Leather" Masterclass

 

Designer Maker Yusuf Osman, along with technical advisor Karl Flowers from the UK, will hold his masterclass in Hong Kong. Designed for designers, this course will provide participants with technical and practical insights into the characteristics and applications of different types of leather.

 

Basic leather course for fashion professionals

 

Taught by technical consultant Karl Flowers, this course is specifically designed for fashion professionals, including manufacturers, stylists, buyers and store trainers. The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the technical aspects of leather, including the tanning process, leather types, leather products, care instructions, and an overview of leather testing and certification.

Featured networking events

 

On March 20th, the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) will host an evening cocktail reception following the APLF trade show. During the event, LHCA will announce plans for the campaign "Real Leather. Stay Different." which showcases the innovative use of leather in the artistic creations of talented designers from around the world.

In addition, Leather Naturally will host a breakfast meeting on the same morning. As a leading advocate for the promotion of leather, this group will present an in-depth update on its upcoming initiatives to unite the industry. Their primary goal is to convey the correct message to the public that leather is a sustainable material. In addition, the organizers have prepared a series of seminars, workshops and exhibition areas throughout the exhibition for the public to participate in.
