Loewe meets the Japanese art of Hafu Matsumoto

Can a handbag be considered a work of art? For Loewe, the answer is yes. In fact, the brand has partnered with Japanese artist Hafu Matsumoto to create four bags that embody the perfect fusion of art and fashion. A project strongly desired by creative director Jonathan Anderson, a passionate collector of handcrafted objects.

Hafu Matsumoto, a master of bamboo weaving, has honed traditional techniques such as stripping, flattening and shaping large pieces of bamboo, combining Japanese heritage with avant-garde artistry. This sculptural mastery is reflected in Loewe's four special edition bags, which reinterpret the house's iconic designs: the Hobo, Hammock, Puzzle and Pocket.

Each bag is designed by transferring Matsumoto's art of folding to leather, resulting in unique and original pieces, some of which are already sold out in a short time. Made of calfskin leather to ensure the shape, they are available in classic black and tan colors.

The bags also feature details such as the embossing of the Loewe logo and the artist's name, sealing this extraordinary collaboration, an example of how excellent craftsmanship becomes the common thread to celebrate tradition and design innovation, giving fashion a new chapter in which art takes shape and is worn.
